I visited this facility

We visited this place as a potential facility for my dad. Ultimately, we didn't select it almost solely because it was somewhat further than my mom wanted to drive to visit. BUT there is a lot to recommend about Red Oak. It is a very beautifully converted private residence that just opened in February 2021. If you are familiar with San Antonio, it very close to the US281 & Bitters Rd intersection. It has room for 8 residents, with a caregiver to resident ratio of 4:1. The owner is a retired military RN and is there most of the time. The owner seems to be very familiar with and generally cares a lot about the needs of memory care patients. The place has a very homey feel, and there are options for a shared bath, in-room half-bath & in-room full bath. Rooms are furnished. Rooms include TVs with video cameras for virtual visits. There seems to be a lot of tech, with bed sensors so that employees know when residents get up. There's a very nice backyard area with a walking path and places to sit. If you look at their web site you can see a virtual tour and a dollhouse view of the layout. If I was the one making the final decision for my dad, I probably would have picked this place. I would recommend to anyone to at least check out Red Oak before making your final decision on a place for your loved one.

Caring owners and staff. Place is always well kept. My mother’s room is always neat and clean and she always looks at peace and well cared for. They have a beautiful back yard and walk ways where I can stroll my mother or just sit outside to enjoy the day and pray with her. José RN/owner is good at trouble shooting any issues to make sure my mother is well cared for. He has been easy to work with before and after my mom’s arrival.

Beautiful home setting for memory care. Wonderful attention to detail. From the rooms, amenities, outside area, de unity and more. Caregivers and RN’s are fantastic. They were easy to work with for admission and quick to respond and assist. We had to move a family member from her home 5 hours away and she’s acclimating well. Already very comfortable with Staff and speaking highly of them. A wonderful experience considering the circumstances. Highly recommend.

My mother-in-law moved into Red Oak Memory Care in Feb of 2021. We spent a few weeks looking and visited multiple over facilities trying to find the right place for her before visiting Red Oaks. My wife and I were very impressed from the start with the facility and staff. The home is beautiful and in a nice residential setting, making it feel like a home, not a facility. The home has been completely renovated/retrofitted to accommodate the best possible environment to provide the care needed for residents. The individual rooms are very nice, with easy access to restrooms and a family room. The hallways are wide for wheel chairs and the kitchen/dining area is great for residents to be able to get out of their rooms and eat in more of a family type setting. One last note about the facility, my mother-in-law loved the back patio/yard (complete with circular walking path), it was so wonderful to see her light up when she got to sit outside and watch the birds and the changing of the seasons. This is a very nice touch, something that made a difference for her last year. The care given was simply superb. The staff went above and beyond to make my mother-in-comfortable until the very end. Having the facility run by a licensed nurse, to me, makes all the difference in the world. We never once felt that the care could have been more compassionate or competent. The food was great, even though my mother-in-law was a picky eater. The really tried hard to please her with home cooked meals and well thought out snacks through the day. The staff's communication with both the visiting doctor’s group, and later hospice was very good and really helped a lot toward the end. The care they provided to my mother-in-law and the compassion they showed our family was tremendous. It simply could not have been more caring. I would highly recommend Red Oaks Memory Care to any family looking for a caring facility that goes above and beyond to make your loved ones comfortable.

We had been looking for an assisted living facility based in a small group residential setting that specialized in dementia care with a focus on Alzheimer's disease for my mother and are so pleased we found Red Oak Memory Care. We were first impressed by the virtual tour on their web site. Located in a well-established North Central neighborhood, within seconds of our first visit we realized that the video did not do this place justice! The attention to the smallest detail begins as soon as you get out of the car in the circular driveway. No steps or transitions from the car to the front door give a sense of safety as soon as you arrive. As you approach the front door of this well-manicured home and yard, you immediately notice the added fire protection hookup lighting and security. When you enter the home, the spacious and well-appointed great room and dining room greet you. Every detail is well thought out for the safety and comfort of the residence, starting with the color choices of the walls to help create a sense of calm and peace, lighting that does not create shadows or dark spots, no slip flooring with zero transitions, and most importantly a family home environment. The gourmet kitchen will make you want to go home a remodel yours. Each room is spacious and well-appointed with bed, chest of drawers for folded cloths and armoire for hanging cloths and storing shoes. An individual TV is in each room with private remote visiting capabilities built in. All bathrooms and shower areas are built to assure privacy and safety. A detailed lifestyle assessment allows the well-trained staff to focus on providing elements of comfort and familiarity to the resident, from TV show and movies , food they prefer and even music therapy designed to help touch some of their deepest memories. The entire staff is well trained, attentive, warm and kind. After living her entire live in the country, Mother loves most of all the large private backyard. The patio is well shaded and furniture is comfortable. The walking path meanders around a lovely garden and gazebo full of ornamental plants, bushes and even a mature orange tree…he favorite spot! The mature neighborhood, called the Arbor provides a perfect spot for many varieties of birds constantly chirping and singing in the background. We would strongly recommend the Red Oak Memory Care to anyone looking for discreet, professionally managed small group residential assisted living facility that focused on memory care.

If you are searching for Memory Care for your loved one, you are likely experiencing a plethora of emotions: reservation, concern, fear and, ultimately, hope. After exploring numerous options, my family was blessed to find Red Oak Memory Care for my Grandfather, who experiences dementia. The caregiver/client ratio is amazing, the facility is sparkling clean, the staff is compassionate and genuine (truly the most difficult criteria to meet), and friends/family are welcome to visit and/or take their loved one offsite at any time. Jose and his staff are willing to go above and beyond to make your loved one feel comfortable. For example, they ensure my Grandfather is served spaghetti with meatballs frequently, because it is his preferred food. They comfort him when he does not comprehend why he is not at his home in Alaska (Yes, we relocated him from Alaska to Texas because of the degree of competency at Red Oaks Memory Care). They have improved his quality of life in many ways. I know it is a very difficult and personal decision to place your loved one's care in the hands of others. My Grandpa was adamant he would live independently until his death. However, necessity supersedes desire in more severe situations. I feel beyond blessed to have found the staff at Red Oaks Memory Care and I wish you peace in finding the same.

I feel so blessed to have found Jose & his wife Lillian. They are the owners/operators of this facility. Jose is a Registered Nurse with many years of experience with the US Army. His facility is immaculate and very comfortable. It is clear they take pride in the space they share with their residents. They are welcoming and accommodating at any time and really want you to feel at home when you are visiting your loved one. The patient rooms are cozy and well kept and the living space is also very nice. They also have a lovely outdoor area that is very peaceful. Jose is a careful and observant attendant of his patients and also a great teacher for his staff. His staff are also all very helpful and friendly and I loved the care and attention they paid to my Dad during his stay with them. My father's dementia made it difficult to feed him and keep him clean at times but the staff were so patient and so skilled at getting him to cooperate with his care. In the end as my father declined, Jose was prepared and suggested hospice at just the right time. The transition was quick for my father and Jose made every effort to keep me apprised of the situation so my sister and I could be there with him when he passed. As painful as it is to lose a great father, Jose and his staff helped my Dad pass peacefully and comfortably which gave my sister and myself great comfort. The cost of care is relatively comparable to what you'll find at a large facility but the care and attention is 1000% better. My only regret is not being able to have my dad spend more of his final months at Red Oak Memory Care. I would refer Red Oak Memory Care to anyone looking for Assisted Living or Memory Care without hesitation. God Bless.
